A spectacular yoga trek to uplift you, while supporting disadvantaged children in Nepal!

You will experience Nepal's rugged beauty along with all the comforts and incredible hospitality.

After arriving you will be greeted with a traditional Nepali welcoming ceremony at your stunning Himalayan hotel in Pokhara.

Your first 4 days will be spent trekking through some of the most picturesque scenery to the breathtaking village of Ghandruk. Swimming in natural Himalayan springs, meeting local people and tasting incredible mountain fresh food. With morning and evening yoga and meditation. Then you will return to relax into 4 days of amazing yoga, meditation and delicious Nepali food at the resort, after the trek. You will have free time to explore Pokhara, Fewa Lake and the multitude of sites here.

Marissa as a local social worker and yoga teacher will introduce you to the culture, people, magic and majesty of Nepal. Guest Nepalese yoga and meditation teachers will share their unique practices and beauty of their way of life. In many ways the Himalayan mountains are seen as the home of yoga.

This is one of the best times to visit Nepal. It will be warm & green. You will experience the full spectrum of hospitality, from staying in traditional Nepalese charming teahouses when hiking to luxury in Pokhara. It will be an excellent temperature for hiking with good views of the snow capped Himalayan mountains.

There will also be a day trip to the Tibetan village and monetary to experience the profound chanting of the Tibetan Buddhist monks.

As a therapist and social worker every retreat and experience Marissa and Gone Far Beyond create is motivated and designed to offer each member a healing, rejuvenating and incredible experience, while also helping others. On this retreat $40 will be donated by GFB to disadvantaged children of Pokhara for every retreat member booked. Of course extra contributions are very welcome and members are free to raise additional funds themselves at home, but no obligation is necessary.

In Nepal disadvantaged children are vulnerable to ill health, exploration, trafficking, prostitution, substance abuse and crime. The way in which we support the children and the number of children helped depends upon the amount of retreat guests and the amount of money raised. Ask for the itinerary to find out more about the children and program we will be helping.

Yoga and Social Work are both united by the principles and intentions of: SERVICE, HUMANITY, EQUALITY, COMPASSION, LIBERATION, OPENNESS, UNDERSTANDING AND TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES. During the trek and yoga retreat we draw on the principles for ourselves and with generosity of heart we offer it  to others.

Women and children are the most vulnerable in society, especially when family structures breakdown or tragedy strikes. In Bali, village women earn ¼ of what men do, $2-3 per day on a building site or as a cleaner for example. When a women becomes a single mother, its difficult to remarry and they can be plunged into poverty, along with her children.

When I meet these three women, I was so deeply touched. Here are the their stories:

Nengah is 47 years old and sells food on the street to raise money for her two sons (11 & 16 years old). Five years ago her husband, a hard working carpenter died of cancer. Since then she has struggled provide education and food for her sons. She has suffered greatly from depressed due to her loss and circumstances.

Wayan is 50 years old and works 6 days a week as a maid making $2.50 per day, her husband had a massive stroke 10 years ago and now has virtually no language, understanding, interaction, or ability to work. She has found it very challenging to work long hours, care for her disabled husband and two daughters (15 & 16 years old), who will soon start high school.

Wayan is 45 years old and has two sons (3 & 5 years old). In May 2017 her husband was killed in a road accident on his way to work at a quarry, leaving her crippled financially. Although she is still in shock and grieving, Wayan has started running a shop but lacks the resources to buy goods to sell.

What is unbelievable about this story is, these women are all from the same family and live together, and have experienced such tragic bad luck with the loss of all of their husbands. Although they support each other as best they can, their relatives have given as much support possible and they do whatever they can to work, they worry about how to pay for their children’s education and providing food daily.

Gone Far Beyond is donating $50 for every retreat guest to supporting single mothers in Jasri, Bali. And of course extra contributions are welcome, but no obligation is necessary. The number of women and the way in which we help them, depends upon the number of retreat members and the amount of money raised. The women described the following as their greatest challenges:
  • Primary education for children ($180 per year primary school) – includes uniform & school materials Secondary education for children ($300 entry fee + $50 per year for 3 years) – includes uniform & school materials
  • Transport for children to school (.50c per day)
  • Lunch money ($1 for school children lunch)
  • Two meals a day for the family ($10 per day)
  • Supplies for a small business ($400-500 for a stall or $100 for a street sellers basket
*Gone Far Beyond facilitates social projects based on empowerment, dual participation and long term benefit, for people in great hardship. All funds are spent on specific essential traceable items. With the ultimate ambition of supporting people to become independent and self sustaining.

We all benefit from the act of giving and learning to receive, the practice of yoga is giving and receiving, within the practice and throughout life.
